The Shopscovery Spacecraft was a spacecraft designed by Warning von Brown and built by the SIA.

Background[edit]

The Shopscovery was idealized from the idea of sending penguins into space. It wouldn't be a first, but it would be a first for Shops Island. However, the SIA had severe underfunding and terrible rockets even with the help of von Brown. So, the rocket was built in 3 stages, and is one the biggest flying objects in Antarctica's history, even rivaling the Jupiter V 3000. The only flying object bigger than it is the Neptune IX.

Usage[edit]

To lift off the ground, the spacecraft requires 500 (imperial) tons of liquid rocket fuel. Once filled, it is launched. After the first stage of the rocket burns out (after about 5 minutes), it separates and exposes the second stage. After another 5 minutes, that stage blasts away, the third stage fires for about 2 minutes. Then, the rest of the spacecraft separates away from the main modular capsule, which then orbits the earth. In total, the rocket can bring 50,000 kg of payload into Low Earth Orbit and around 40,000 kg into geostationary orbit.

The capsule is able to spend a maximum of 20 days in orbit. The penguins on board can spend that time performing experiments or observing space. After about 19 days in orbit, the spacecraft begins to return to Earth. If it stays in space for any longer, things such as oxygen and food may run out. To begin the return to Earth, the spacecraft begins the re-entry process.

Re-entering the atmosphere is a precise process. There are 2 sets of Retro-Rockets (rockets attached to the capsule) that propel against the direction of the capsule traveling. It's a process that requires finesse. Fire too long, and the capsule will fall and burn up in earth's atmosphere. Fire too shortly, and it will bounce into a much higher orbit, with no way of returning home (steering would not do anything).

Features[edit]

  • Missiles - The capsule is equipped with nuclear missiles in the event of an attack, so the craft can be defended.
  • Steering Rockets - Specialized retro-rockets so the capsule can turn itself while in orbit. However, this does not change its direction in orbit; Only its positioning.
