Tribute is an Ed Islandian colony world. It was first terraformed in 2082 and colonized in 2087, but was visited by Ed Islandian craft as early as 2018. Tribute is a colony world located within the Epsilon Eridani system. At 10.5 light years from the Sol system, it is located at Earth's metaphorical doorstep. Tribute is the fourth largest planet in the Epsilon Eridani system, and second closest to the star Epsilon Eridani.

Overview

For a young planet with an age of less than one billion years, compared to Earth's 4.6 billion year existence, Tribute is remarkably geologically stable. Tribute is larger than Earth, having a diameter of 15,273 kilometers, compared to the 12,756 kilometers diameter of Earth. Tribute was originally inhospitable for most life, requiring a large degree of terraforming before it could be colonized. Mostly a rugged and harsh wilderness filled with towering mountains, glaciers, and weather-beaten forests, Tribute's surface is pockmarked with meteor impact craters, some of these forming large seas. Tribute was the largest source of titanium within the IEE colonies. Deposits of the element could be found in abundance on the planet, sometimes breaking the surface in the form of large spires.

Tribute has a strong aurora phenomenon, to the extent the planet is covered in an "aura" of aurorae. This is caused by a stronger magnetic field. Tribute has two natural satellites; the large, ringed Csongrád and the small, cratered Turul which was captured into Tribute's orbit as recently as some 70-80 thousand years ago. Tribute's oceans also experience strong tidal phenomena from these moons, resulting in large waves impacting the shorelines.

History

2013

In late 2013, a strange message discovered in Earth's orbit mentioned Tribute several times, but the planet itself had not been discovered by penguinkind at that time.

Ed Island and the IEE

The star Epsilon Eridani had been known for several centuries, but the planets orbiting it hadn't been discovered until 2017, when an SIA satellite had captured pictures of them, which were released to the public. EDFan12345 had taken interest in them, as several appeared to be close enough to be able to support life. When an unmanned mission proved inconclusive, a manned mission (the first outside the Sol system) had been sent in 2029, but it was found that none of the planets had been habitable, to the dismay of many. However, this was still a monumental achievement for Ed Island. It wasn't until 30 years later, when terraforming worlds was possible. Atmosphere processors had been built on the terrestrial worlds of the system, with Tribute being the first. With the claim of the Epsilon Eridani system, Ed Island (later known as the Intergalactic Empire of Ed) became the single largest empire (territory-wise) of the 21st and 22nd centuries, easily shadowing even the largest Antarctican empire.

Tribute shortly became the most important headquarters for the Ed Island Space Command outside of Earth and the main supplier of military and civilian spacecraft, and the location of the EISC's largest and most active shipyard. High Command, Fleet Command and the Colonial Marine Corps maintained headquarters on Tribute, as well as many primary naval resupply bases. It was also where the EISC's most elite troops were trained. Tribute's purpose was not solely military however; the surface of the planet also featured farmland and civilian towns and districts.
