The Antarctic War on Terrorism is a miltary campaign that began after the Newdeal Civil War in September 2014. The main objective of the war is to dismantle terrorist networks across Antarctica, and to defeat countries accused on sponsoring them. Originally starting with insurgencies in Snowiny, now the United Provinces, and Margate, the conflict spread across Antarctica.
On November 30, 2015, the war reached its climax when a group of terrorists affiliated with both the Red East Pengolian Terrorists and the Nexonan Nationalist Movement attacked South Pole City, leaving 250 dead and many more injured. After a conference in Shiverpool between the leaders of the top nations fighting in the war, they issued a statement, saying they will fight to the end to end terrorism.
Suffering a series of defeats in August 2016, the NNM and Little Penland greatly declined in power. Throughout most of late 2016, both groups were reduced to a series of small insurgencies, with the UP government advancing on key terrorist strongholds in Penland. However, by early 2017, both groups have increased in their attacks.
Background[edit]
The origins of the Antarctic War on Terrorism is believed to have started as early as 2000, in the midst of the Snowinn Civil War. With most of the fighting in the north between the nationalist government and the republican rebels, Penland in the south attempted to declare independence, founding the Penland Independence Movement. This is believed to be a predecessor to Little Penland. However, despite their attempts at independence, Penland was included in the nation of Snowiny at the end of the war.
Throughout the 2000's, Penland was increasingly unstable, with the Snowinian government crushing multiple rebellions by underground independence movements. Though these groups were small and weak, during the Frosian War, due to backing from Puffalia and Zhou, both the NNM and Little Penland attempted to declare independence and defeat both Margate and Snowiny, respectively. Through an alliance with other countries, both groups were defeated, though this set the stage for later movements.

9/23 Attacks[edit]
Shortly after the beginning of the war, terrorists allied with the Nexonan and Puffalian Liberation Movements carried out attacks in both Snowiny and Francterre, killing 109, and 194, respectively. Both countries declared one month of mourning, and after both groups declared responsibility for the attacks, they released a statement saying they were not afraid of the terrorists. Both countries began military operations against the groups.
