On 3rd January 2019, Lord Sofer succeeded Emperor Kalieth the Great as the Emperor of Magonia after the latter passed away the same day. During the early years of his reign, the Magonian Extraterrestrial Corporation (MEC) discovered the ice planet Mygeeto and a gas giant later named as Daphia. A mining colony was built near the top of Daphia's atmosphere in order to extract its precious gases. As the production of these gases proved to be profitable after merchants of extraterrestrial origins started frequenting said colony via space cruisers, more mining colonies sprang up, with some even developing into cities. The most well-known of these, Saucersphere, became the de facto capital of Daphia.

On the other hand, Mygeeto was only settled in 2024 due to the MEC falsely believing that it wasn't rich in natural resources. However, the corporation was proven to be wrong when valuable crystals were found in extreme abundance. While they weren't of much usage in the Antarctic world, these crystals, especially Magusile (as the Magonians named them after discovering its value) were valuable in the eyes of other species, with some more primitive alien civilisations even using Magusile as their currencies. Mygeeto rose to become a financial hub, becoming the headquarters of several intergalactic financial institutions by the late 2030s.

The extraterrestrial colonies were, for the most part, kept secret to other countries with the exception of Margate and Munijoch. Exchanging resources for advanced manufacturing technology, the Magonians adopted these technology and introduced them en masse in factories in order to make the economy more efficient and productive. Some of these machineries were sold to Zeta Connections' member states in order to raise more revenue, leading to an overall surge in the Zeta states' economic outputs.

However, things took a turn for the worse in 2038 when Emperor Sofer II attempted to nationalise the MEC, which had been a privatised company since its establishment in 2017. More precisely, the Emperor wanted to own the MEC for himself by forcing the MEC's shareholders to surrender their shares in the company to him. At first, the patriotic shareholders (including Chancellor Slender who owned the largest stake) willingly obliged, thinking that they would be compensated and it was their duty as Magonian citizens to do so for the greater good of the country. However, when word got out that some of the shares would be sold to several figures associated with the Emperor, everyone was outraged. The MEC's management was divided into two factions, the first and dominant faction advocating for the company's colonies to become independent, while the second remained loyal to the Emperor.

The Emperor's enemies, led by Slender, managed to garner the support of the colonies' populace after Slender sold off all of his disputed shares in the company to a trust fund (which eventually became the sovereign wealth fund of the Magnus Empire) representing the colonists as a whole. At that point, he didn't even care about losing the bulk of his wealth, he just wanted to teach the backstabbing Emperor a lesson. In the end, the colonies formed the Magnus Empire and declared independence. With the support of the Magonian people, the military and the Parliament, Sofer II was overthrown in a palace coup and placed under house arrest for life. In his stead, Kalieth I's adopted son Kalieth II (who refused to take the throne when his adopted father died) became the next Emperor. However, the damage was done and Magonia lost what was at the time the largest extent of territory in Antarctic history without much bloodshed. The incident became known as the Magnus Breakoff.

Magonia spent the next few decades building up its military in order to reconquer its 'lost empire' and restore its national glory. Slender only agreed to the military build-up in order to gain the military's support in the palace coup, promising the generals that Magonia would somehow reconquer the suddenly independent Magnus Empire since they weren't pleased with Magonia losing so much territory. Coincidentally, Slender's grandson Padishah Slender III would later lead the Magonian offence against the Magnus Empire in 2068. At the time, Magonia was ruled by the brutal Emperor Sulla the Dreadful, who ruled the country in a way similar to a totalitarian dictator would. Atrocities against political opponents were widespread. Just as the Magonian Offence nearly succeeded, Slender III received intel from a trusted friend that the paranoid Sulla had exterminated the entire Magonian branch of the Mason family, including his fiancé, as he feared that the Chancellor would grow too powerful.

This was a wrong move as Slender III never intended to betray the Emperor. As expected of someone whose relatives and lover were executed by a dictator, he proceeded to lead the Magonian army in subjugating the Magnus Empire and declared himself ruler in a sudden turn of events. The Masons' extermination had a domino effect on many of the army generals, as they feared that Sulla would exterminate them and their loved ones despite having done nothing wrong. Many in the military rebelled against the Emperor, but they failed to overthrow the Emperor as the mutineers only made up a minority of the military (despite over half of the officer corps joining them). The leader of the mutiny back on Earth, Roger Auburn, fled overseas to UnitedTerra and formed a government-in-exile.

While political instability was neutralised as a threat for the time being, political tension quickly grew into a full-blown revolution in 2107. Roger's successor, Thomas Brooks, successfully got the Margatian and Munian governments into supporting the revolution. Eventually, the rest of the Zeta Connections also supported it. He also managed to convince the Magonians into braving up and overthrowing Sulla, who was executed in public. The Republic of Magonia was formed the same year.
