Have you heard of the new vegemite? It's basically Vegemite mixed with cream cheese. Tastes delicious, but it goes off if you leave it out too long. They had a "Name Me" Competition happening for six weeks. 48,000 entries came in. Finally, the name was chosen.
iSnack 2.0.
I'm not kidding you. This is really the name, submitted by a 27-year-old IT Specialist. Australia roared angrily at Kraft over the next week to change the name, as it kills the Australian Icon of Vegemite.
Vegemite to us is as much an icon as the Statue of Liberty is in America. Renaming a delicious spread iSnack 2.0 kills the icon-ish feeling dead. Imagine the conversation.
"What do you want on your sandwich?"
"I'd like some iSnack 2.0, please."
"0_0"
"(facepalm)"
There is no possible way for it to sound non-dorky. Luckily, Australia pressured Kraft to rename it Cheesybite. And that's that. But how would you like it if we renamed the Statue of Liberty "iLiberty 2.0"? You'd be angry too.
