Hello Fellow Users of the Club Penguin Fanon Wiki! :D

This is not your normal regular message, THIS IS AN URGENT MESSAGE. It is a response to Speeddasher's blog post about wiki inactivity.

As most of you know, the trend of wiki activity has dropped sharply in the previous months; I believe the inactivity streak may have started around September or October, and had been growing ever since.

Things have not been getting any better. Several users have quit or completely disappeared. Here are a list of known users who have quit or disappeared as of today, February 1.

TurtleShroom. Yes, that's right. I am sad to announce that TS has officially quit the wiki, and he sent me a very sad eMail. I will talk about that in a moment.

Austin. I've never officially posted a quit notice, because I kept telling myself that I would be back with new ideas and articles. Honestly, I quit months and months ago, and I did check the site frequently until about a month ago. Now I don't.

Explorer (He stopped editing the wiki, and eventually disappeared from the IRC by October 2011. Who knows what happened to him...)

When I heard Tails6000's aspirations to stay on the wiki if TS would return, I eMailed TS about the situation, asking him to return to editing. Instead, I got a very depressing yet a sad reality of a letter.

Here it is:

Dearest Colleague:

I'll circumvent my usual "no reply I'm near sleeping" rule to respond to such a heartfelt plea by the site that made the absolute foundation for my teenaged life.

Sadly, like the others, I have aged and, after an entire adolescence of joy and wonders, Club Penguin's inspirational powers have waned as I have begun to demand larger, more intricate and complex storytelling and freeform sandbox games like NS, SimCity, Tropico, and Minecraft.

I didn't want to outgrow CP and I'll continue to pay for my Membership until death (and after, by orchestrating my will to pay a sixty nine dollar dividend into monthly parts of rounded seven dollars) to honor them. Sadly, the time has come to pass for the general abandonment of the CPFW.

I will continue to read its Recent Changes in RSS on my Phone. I will monitor and enforce the original continuity on an extremely passive, silent, and subtle basis.

I will always link to CPFW whenever it is possible and will maintain contact with all users by gathering up their e-mail addresses.

You are not forgotten.

The wiki may be dead physically, but it will forever live on in our hearts.

I may make some final concluding insertions. This will take the form of a large conglomeration of "Rule Sixty Three" portraits and a parody of Frank Sinatra's “I Did It My Way”. I may even pen a short finale about the BOF closing up shop and performing simple upkeep with the world in suspended animation, in case the CPFW is ever "re-booted".

It is ironic and humorously insulting that anyone wants ME back as a ruler. You and most the wiki had the WHAAAAAAAM-BULANCE on speed dial for every act I did!

I'll make a final visit to the CPFW to end the world with honor, dignity, and love.

On Independence Day in 2012, I plan for the CPFW to officially close. It'd be the third anniversary of the anti-TS coup d'etat and the fourth year of the site.

I'll have the Staff lock the database and place you, me, and a few trusted users (-BUT NOT FEEY!) in a new rank that would allow us to edit the locked wiki for categories and spellcheck.

I'll also pitch my plan for an I-PHONE NEWSSTAND APP that will publish Ninjinuan's newsletters from time to time to fans.

The CPFW will receive a dignified, peaceful, and quiet rest of honor and happiness. It'll be a fitting end to one of the greatest things to ever happen to me.

Now some of you may be thinking that this is an outrage that TS would think of closing down the wiki so soon. Luckily, Iceflower was able to convince him not to, and so the wiki will stay unlocked for the public...for now. I know this is a lot of reading, but here is the main point of the blog...

Our Biggest Challenge

Let's face it, everyone, the wiki is dying...and some of us don't want us to die so soon. To prevent this wiki from closing it's doors from new users for good, we need to bring new users to this wiki. We MUST find a way to attract the masses and gain new users.

Fellow users, we need a grand advertising scheme that will bring in new users just as much as back in the days of Wikia.

We need SOMEONE to come up with an effective and/or innovative Idea to bring new users to this wiki.

Or if anything even more, we need at least readers and visitors to the site even more, although please, this is an urgent situation that has been unnoticed and un-taken care of for way too long.

It's up to whoever is left here to keep this wiki alive, or it will die. As for myself, i try advertising on Flickr....and eventually on YouTube.

Honestly? The wiki, in my mind, died a long time ago.

I quit months ago, but I didn't want to say I had quit. I assumed I could get back to editing. That's not going to happen. Honestly...it's done, guys. It really is.

I mean, just by terms of age! Turtleshroom is at least 18, I'm 14, you're 14, Agent Johnson is probably 14-15, and Flywish is at least 13-14. Maybe we've just outgrown it...moved on. When was the last time we even played Club Penguin? Mine was years ago. I've moved on to NS, Minecraft, other places.

I agree. It's probably time that we just let the CPFW die in peace. We had a lot of fun editing over the years, and I'll never forget those times, but like all good things it must come to an end. I have one picture left to make for Amigopen, and then I'll probably quit the site. I outgrew UNCPW before I outgrew the Fanon, and that's saying something (:D). I think it is time the CLub Penguin Wiki Network dies and simply be left with the Club Penguin Wiki. The Fanon Wiki is over; when I got into NationStates, that was it, the Wiki was over and now I'm into PC gaming with a series of Let's Plays coming up on Minecraft, I find it hard to fit the Fanon in, not to mention soon I'll have GCSEs coming up. I need put other activities in as well, such as my friends, my school's Rugby team, the RAF Cadets and a how load of other ones. It's the same with Austin, Speeddasher and XTUX - we simply outgrew it. Sorry Swiss.

Also did AeroNachos quit?--Agent Johnson | For once Channel 5 (UK) is actually doing alright. They broadcast football matches you want to watch, The Gadget Show is bloody good and for christ sakes they have Big Brother! But scrap Channel 5 News, no one watches it, scrap Fifth Gear, everyone watches Top Gear and scrap Milkshake, because toddlers watch Cebeebies. I'm sorry, but no one will pick the wiki up. Not very many people edit a wiki. But we could just make the wiki fresh. Change it greatly. The COC has hardly been revamped. It's been the same. I also think maybe we could change this wiki into something different than the CPFW. This is nothing related to CP so why bother calling it CPFW? --Fly C. Wish^{Have a great school year my friends!}

Flywish, the reason it is still called the CPFW is because we make it in a Club Penguin theme! And I can't believe you guys don't even want to help rebuild the wiki. In some places I do agree, like making another wiki. But that wiki would cost money outside of wikia, and do we have enough? Let's do what we can to fix this wiki! We need to get sponsored by Monchocho, and Saraapril. We do have some new users here, and it is too early to quit! We need banners, a blog roll, and more advertising. If we don't get out on the other websites, then we'll never get known. People that play CP WANT to have a fictional time together, like we do here. We just have to get known. So tell everyone online about the CPFW, tell them how good we are! Also, when a new user joins become friends with them. New users won't grow unless they have friends. So here's our checklist:

Get advertised on other blogs.

Get ten new users.

Become friends with those new users.

Train those new users.

Get those new users to become regular users.

Sorry, but we are dead. The wiki cannot be saved. People these days are no longer interested in Club Penguin, so there aren't any new people to replace us. The former community of the wiki has mostly passed on to newer prospects. Inactivity will start to make the wiki empty and full of vandals and spam. I've seen some wikis on Wikia that fell from a great, prosperous age into a wasteland (Webkinz Wiki). Inevitably, the Club Penguin Fanon will be like this someday. WHAT!? Are you crazy!? CPFW is one of my more liked hobbies! I'm with Feey1 Here, we need to rebuild! If Explorer and co. have left, we'll rise up and take their places! I joined here as soon as we had got registration working here, we WILL continue this wiki for better or worse!

Whoa. We all knew it was coming, but.... I have no idea what to say. OK, I'll have a go.

Thanks, everyone, for everything. This wiki made up a huge part of my life for several years. I wept when things went wrong, I cheered when they went right, and even got banned several times. Lord, we thought those days would never end.

Problem is, I'm all grown up. I'm extremely different from the Sheepman you used to know and love/hate. I have outgrown CP, and am a lot more mature then when I started out. I've shrugged off my old religion, gotten new political views, and my personality and interests have changed radically. You guys, and what you strove to create contributed to what I am now and for that, and all the good times we had, you have my utmost thanks. Hey guys! It's me. Yeah, I've been popping in and out lately, mostly due to school and IRL commitments. I guess I should really call it quits.

To be honest, this past year I've grown up. We all have. I can still remember the early days in 2009 when we still had webmasters, and then the whole Happyface/Fluffy escapade. I can remember the wiki's golden age, when we were editing like mad and producing brilliant stuff, working in harmony. We had some great times, and I'm sure you can all remember them fondly.

But honestly, the best part of all this was the people. All of you and all the great times we shared. The Pie War, Bugzy's victories, Zone's reformation from troll to...well, a classier troll :P. All of you made this possible and I'm never going to forget you. TS, Swiss, Explorer, Zapwire, Screwball, Speeddasher, Tails, Iceflower, Amigopen, Ninjinian, Bugzy, Zone, and so many more people. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, for making the last three years so much more awesome.

We should leave the database open, even if we all leave. Because I reckon that sooner or later, some young kids, just like us years ago, will find it and bring it back to its former glory. They might even be our own kids! They might continue our legacy, or maybe just make something brand new, more amazing then what we made and full of so many more possibilities.

When we all go our separate ways, we'll never forget our time here. Three years with a bunch of the most talented, creative and amazing people we knew. Thanks so much, everybody. :)

Hi all.

This is XTUX345 speaking, and I wish to let you know that yes, I have quit. I'm sorry, but I don't have the time, and besides, I think we've all outgrown Club Penguin a long time ago. I've since moved on, and am now a blogger/video game reviewer on Equestria Gaming (http://www.equestriagaming.com) and producer of icon-replacement packs. I've also been thinking of writing some My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic fanfiction lately.

I'm sorry, but I really cannot stay active on this site. I have far better things to do, and (for me) Club Penguin has been long eclipsed by the awesomeness that is My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic. I've also gotten into Doctor Who and Star Trek, not to mention that Club Penguin has degenerated into a terrible MMO.

So once again, I salute the members of the Club Penguin Fanon Wiki in a final farewell. It's been fun, and now it's time for me to officially leave at last.

P.S. Yes, I still am working on "Kwikcakes", but it's no longer related to the Club Penguin Fanon Wiki (except for the use of my own creations), and hopefully you should be able to purchase it on steam someday. Although, if TurtleShroom is reading this, I have a message for you. The game "Kwikcakes" can quickly turn quite nightmarish, and contains a high dosage of what they call "High Octane Nightmare Fuel", even though it IS quite lighthearted most of the time. I would advise that, if it is ever released and you decide to play it, brace yourself. Trust me.

I've had complications with getting my video on Youtube, I am starting to think that this wiki should be put "On Hiatus" meaning that the database is locked, but if we get enough registration requests, we should unlock it. If not, we can always write up a finale set in the far future. :(

We Will Live On

Hey guys, HF here. I know I've been gone WAAAY longer than those new quitters, but this place still has a place in my heart.

CPFW isn't just a website I used to visit. It was my first step into the online world. I met the most talented people here, Explorer, TS, Kwik, Speed. In the above sections, you've failed to mention the oldest members. I've been here on CPW Network for 5 years now. I'm older than Explorer and TurtleShroom on this wiki. The people who have quit before did not want this wiki to end. The wiki is their own work; their legacy, and I don't think anyone would want their legacy deleted.

As much as I admire and respect TS, I do not agree with him letting the wiki be closed. Heck, I don't agree with him quitting. TS is a legend here. Even though he isn't an admin anymore, he is pretty much the President!

TS, I came back and wrote this thing for you! We need you more than ever now. You don't need to be interested with CP to edit here! You just need an imagination. Remember "Imagination is more important than knowledge."

I suggest we look at our past. We were doing something right. Before the Fluffy Event was our Golden Age. Before the move was the silver age. Personally, if I were in charge, I'd suggest a move to Wikia. That way we'll get traffic again, and be supported for free! Screw the new skin, its a small price to pay to become active again.

Anyways, guys, edit hard. But this time, work on the quality of pages, and try to integrate them into Wiki continuity!

Feey - I don't think Minecraft is so exciting as some people say either. I have played it 3 or 3 times, and meh. It's just like Lego, but for some reason people adore it :P.

It's a factions server so yes, the spawn is protected. Ordinarily there wouldn't be that much safe zone but some sort of glitch has extended it a little bit. You know I've never truly quit except for when I didn't have a computer. All my early quitting times were mainly for attention or to get what I wanted. If everyone's not realised that by now then I thought everyone ought to know. I lurked CPW a few days before Top Agents started, and then when it started I moved to Dun Laoghire in Co. Dublin so I couldn't join. When I got settled in and had a computer I joined CPFW. I wrote articles with terrible grammar, consistency, and with hardly any knowledge of what was going on or how to use the site. I grew as a writer and a person in the time I spent on the CPFW. I then moved to where I am currently living and was out of a computer for a while so I was inactive. I got back about midway through the Golden Age. After it ended, I slowly became less active. My life became busier, and changed dramitically. I once was a socialist lefty; now I'm a libertarian. I was a Catholic turned Agnostic turned Neopagan; now I'm an Evangelical. I was a European Federalist, now I'm a Eurosceptic. I once was a child with adolescent hormones raging through me; I'm now 17 in my last year of secondary, working a job, taking care of my four siblings and our farm, studying, being active in the church, maintaining a social life, remaining active in the community and in local youth politics and trying to make decisions about the future. I quite CP once I moved from Dun Laoghire to where I live now; I tried to get back into it but it does not interest me anymore. It was a fun part of my childhood; however now I feel that I must put away these childish things. But that does not mean I can not help those who still want them and to enjoy them the way I (we) did. Brothers I implore that we work together to restore this wiki so that others may enjoy it as well.

Staffer comment

I don't think locking the wiki is the best option still. The CPFW still makes up about 15% of our traffic.

But I'll agree with another fact: 2.4% of all our traffic are new CPFW visitors. There's still small readership, so you'll want to advertise it heavily. Get your friends on this wiki, and we can survive.

But I've moved on as well, just like most of the staff (we're mainly here to help now). I still lurk around a lot on IRC and do help out when I can, so don't worry. (There's another site I lurk, but I'll leave that to be guessed here, with the clue being RaplpybcrqvnQenzngvpn.pu)

The Cause

Hello! I've not quit, but I'm terribly busy and it's always lonely on here when I do come on. I've wanted to write but there's no one to do it with, it's too confusing and time consuming. This wiki was a part of my adolescence and it makes me sad to see it go, but let us not be so pessimistic. I have very fond memories of good times and bad, I've grown as a writer, and as a person from this wiki and the experiences I've had here.

Now I could write an eloquent, optimistic, rousing comment that would whirl the wiki back into activity, like a truly great write of old, but I can't. I can only say what I believe the issue to be unfortunately. Unsurprisingly it is a pessimistic comment, or it could be optimistic depending on your mood and how much hope and faith you have in your fello Wiki-ers.

There are many possible causes for this, one likely being everyone's aged enough and got bored of it. Another is that we're no longer truly a Club Penguin Fanon Wiki, we've strayed from that. We've stopped advertising, getting new users, and making articles. The entire wiki is too complex to function and is confusing to newcomers. The majority doesn't even involve the game Club Penguin anymore, it's been pushed to the sidelines and the only similarities are puffles, talking penguins, and a few characters which we've all changed. The confusing somewhat ritualistic ways of the wiki went on for to long and now we're gone. We also refused to accept change on the old wiki and while we may now have self-devolution we have lost much of our traffic. We're moribund; a terminally ill patient in the last stages. Ironically we're sort of a fast forwarded version of the church, if you think about it.

So, how shall we solve this? Let it all crash and burn, or do something. What that something is I haven't the slightest bloody idea. But then let us all make the right decision that in the end will work for the best of us all and for our beloved CPFW. I may sound ridiculous saying this over a website about talking penguins, but it is a part of me and makes me sad to see such despair coming from my friends.

Ideas:

Move to Wikia, even with the new skin
Mass purging (I do not reccomend this however if it is decided to be nessecary)
Advertising/"conversions" from other CP sites to here
Abolishment of OOC laws and make it so anyone can write what they trly want instead of being shackled to one storyline. Let's face it that system was good but not it's gotten too crowded; there's no room for growth due to the entaglements of the laws and contradicting storylines.

These are what I can think of right now although it's 8 AM on a Sunday morning so if you've got any other ideas then please do not hesistate to write them down.

Wikia might come out with a new skin in 2 years when they notice the new skin they gave us is still not working to give them money. Personally, Wikia is still cluttered, and nothing has changed since we moved. So SEO must be done, and we're more than glad to do it. I have noticed a pattern. During the school year, everyone seems to be away. However, during the summer, this place pretty much booms with activity. Wikia is a dangerous option. You don't know what they will pull. Lets wait and see what happens during the summer, and I will also launch a series of ads on other network wikis promoting the CPFW. There is hope. --Seahorseruler

Operation: Growth

If we want to stay alive, we need fresh new minds. Admit it guys. We're oldies. We have no idea what Club Penguin is anymore. I made a new account yesterday to check it out, I was like WTH???. New map, starting gear, etc etc. At least newspapers and messages take a while to load. =P

But, we need to find a way to advertise. If we all contact Club Penguin, maybe they could give us a shoutout or something. We could advertise using CP Army websites, YouTube (TS, I'm looking at you), Facebook, Twitter. Heck, word of mouth would even work.

We need to grow guys, one way or another.

On Advertising

I've wrote a letter to CP asking for support on the 30th of January but they didn't seem to want to do anything... They told us to just ask our parents and or guardians for help... = = They also said they wish us luck but you know... CP isn't going to help... I've been advertising the wiki in school by printing flyers, drawing pictures depicting the characters from the site, and even speaking in front of my classes telling everyone the situation we're having and asking them if they could help us out by joining the site. So far, two of my classmates and one childhood friend of mine has joined, but haven't wrote anything yet. Hopefully they will. ^^ By the way, we should ALL try advertising in real life if we really want to save this wiki as well, and it doesn't matter if you're in high school or something like that because unless you really care about this place you will at least give it a try. Seriously?

Well, I know I'm new here, but what I want to say is: I am not going to stop in this wiki. I don't care if many of the main users like Explorer have quit, I thought of stories ever since I started playing Club Penguin, and I've only posted about 25% of it! Even more, I start getting new ideas every day, referencing other stories and shows. I sometimes stop to rethink my ideas, but that's beyond the point. If the wiki closes, there's no way I can spread my thoughts to others. I've been working on my own wiki on Wikia called "Star Productions Wiki", but since it won't spread, I came here. I also know that I'm using "Mary Sue" in my pages and I'm trying to fix them. ~~Besides, we can return to the old wiki if we want to, and continue on our population of fiction.~~EDIT: Nevermind, there are a few freaks there that think that the old wiki's theirs just because all the admins have come over here.

I kinda feel like you, Star Kirby. I sort of made my characters in Mary Sue before, and I don't care if stars have quit (I wanna stay here!). I love to create my own fanon of CP, it's so much fun. It's more fun that playing the actual game.
