Template:Doctrine Recently, I have heard a lot of people complain about the mess of the COC. It's unorganized, it's sloppy, I can't follow it, it's outmoded... blah blah blah-bitty blah!
Well, today is July Fourth. In America, we celebrate this date as a declaration of independence from our colonial motherland, Great Britain.
It wouldn't be for several years before we wrote our Constitution and framed our government, but this is symbolic enough.
Every real corporation- and churches and some groups -have bylaws. My local church has a Constitution and Bylaws to attach to them. Old timey corporations usually have a Constitution and Bylaws, while modern companies only have Bylaws.
Bylaws outline the very core of the business along with the Constitution.
I was thinking that we should re-arrange our COC into a corporate style bylaw section. The COC would be a disambiguation to each item, like the United States Code or the CPW's politically correct Policies.
If I can call up my grandfather, we may even be able to do it like a real business, under Robert's Rule of Order. (RROF is a vocal structure, not a written/online structure. Nix that.)
Please remember that the Bylaws outline the core of the site governance, not every rule and action to follow.
For us, that would be who and what the rulers are (BOSS), their powers, the purpose of the site, how to become a BOSS, membership, yadda yadda yadda. Just read the link.
Bylaws do NOT cover every legislation and detail. A Bylaw wouldn't, for example, explain how to handle a flame war, but it could tell who could, as an example.

If we must re-organize the COC, let's do it RIGHT.
We'll start with the Constitution, then on to Bylaws, and finally, we'll sort the remaining Rules into the CPFW Code.
This whole thing will make up the COC.
